Nygård Heritage & Fashion Museum
New Market Place Project to become an integral part of Winnipeg's Exchange District
As summer heats up so does Nygård's construction crew as they carefully prepare his old homestead in Deloraine, MB for relocation to Winnipeg, MB. The fashion mogul purchased the vintage farmhouse in 2001 along with the intact attached 15'x13' coal shed. It is this
15'x13' hovel that became his family's first home when they arrived in Deloraine from their native Finland in the early 50ies. In 2002, the people of Deloraine honoured Peter Nygård & his family by naming Nygård Park in his honour. This park sees thousands of visitors annually & is known for flying the 'Flags of the World'. Deloraine is where the Peter Nygård 'rags-to-riches' story began.
The Homestead will be placed on a flatbed trailer on WED JUL28-04 @ 1200 noon & moved intact to Winnipeg where it will become the cornerstone of the new Nygård Heritage & Fashion Museum. The museum will also house Nygård fashion archives featuring the evolution of fashion over the last five decades -- it will showcase the success story of the NYGÅRD company; 2003 marked the company's 35th year anniversary.
Restoration of the 120,000+ sq ft Exchange District show piece continues ... Nygård Market Place will be renovated to include NYGÅRD Fashion World, the latest business/residential loft style condos, fresh food stalls, Nygård's fashion television network NFN & will add to Winnipeg's cultural cluster a bit of a 'New York' feel where people can shop, live & work downtown!
Nygård's vision is that when construction is complete the new buildings, along with the Nygård Heritage & Fashion Museum - will position the Exchange District as a sought after Manitoba tourist destination.
